Hello! I’m Kayla, a practicing artist and art educator from Long Island, NY. I am currently completing my Masters of Art in Teaching in Art Education at the School of Visual Arts, and I will officially be a certified PK-12 art educator by the Fall. Teaching and art are my life’s true passions, and I am confident that my experiences both in and out of the classroom have prepared me to be a kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable art teacher who is dedicated to my students’ creative successes. Artist Statement

My artistic process begins by connecting to a space or location. I use my art practice as a means of understanding and living within the places where I become situated and the places I call home, more specifically what creates an environment where I, or others, call a place home. My goal is to inspire others to connect more deeply with where they live and the world around them through small moments. My most recent installation, Forever Flowers and A Year in Flowers, which was featured in the School of Visual Arts Flatiron Gallery for the MAT Art Education culminating exhibition, directly showcases this by highlighting personal and artistic experiences as they are connected to my past, present, and future in the city of New York. I hope that viewers will relate with this installation in their own way and further think about their relationships with their spaces, homes, and how they connect with the world around them.
